You hear the phrase “Everything’s bigger in Texas” getting tossed around a lot but I think you could just as easily make it “Everything is bigger at Disney” – especially when talking about food. Big portions can easily work in your favor, especially if you’re looking for easy (and delicious) ways to save on your next WDW trip.
Sharing snacks is one of the simplest things you can do to save some cash while at WDW. Just look around at the multitude of mesmerizing sweets, treats and snacks and it’s easy to see how a little thing can go a long way.
Let’s start with a few easy ones. Take for example the candy apples. Candy apples have had an explosion in popularity at Disney and now come dressed as practically any character imaginable. They come in chocolate and caramel, with nuts or with marshmallows, dipped in brilliant colors and coated in sprinkles. The combinations are practically endless.
But have you ever tried to eat a whole one? Aside from the challenge of actually getting a bite out of these monster treats there is more than enough candy coated goodness to go around. Plus to make things easy the staff are all set up ready to slice your treat for you. Just ask for your apple sliced when ordering and then gather up the family; this snack easily shares with everyone. And even though they retail for around $6-12, splitting that between 2-6 people makes it much more affordable than getting everyone their own $5 treat.
Another great one to share are the cupcakes. Next time you’re at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, check out Starring Rolls Cafe and their signature cupcakes. These fan-favorites come in amazing flavors like Red Velvet Cheesecake, Peanut Butter Chocolate and Butterfinger – and are easily big enough for two. You’ll have to cut these ones up yourself but trust me, there is more than enough cake to go around.
If savory snacks are more up your alley check out the gigantic, and delicious, pretzels available in the Germany Pavilion at Epcot…they are literally the size of your face! Also if you’re at Animal kingdom check out Trilo-bites and their pulled buffalo chicken waffle slider. Both tasty and filling my wife and I shared this spicy sandwich on a recent trip for a much needed top off before heading out on our next Safari. Pop corn is another great item to share. A box will net you a couple handfuls each of this salty snack.
If you keep your eyes open around the parks you’ll start to see just how many snacks would make great sharing options. Disney serves with a generous hand and if you make smart choices and share your snacks you’ll be sure to stretch your food dollars further. Also sharing is fun and in the long run means you’ll get to taste more of the ever-expanding variety of tempting treats to be found at WDW.
But no sharing my Dole Whip… it’s too tasty not to have one all to yourself 😉
